Everyone wants a gorgeous, white, bright and straight smile. Unfortunately, not all of us have one. Years of smoking and drinking red wine and coffee can leave stains on your teeth. Perhaps your teeth are chipped or cracked, or there’s a gap in your smile. You may feel self-conscious about smiling, but you’re not sure what to do about it. Luckily, there’s an easy way to fix all of these issues: veneers. At Smith and Van Lierop Dentistry, we can fit you with veneers that perfectly match your natural teeth, so you can have a smile you’re proud to flaunt!
What type of veneers do we use?
A porcelain veneer is a thin layer of porcelain that we use to re-create the natural look of teeth. It also provides strength and resilience similar to natural tooth enamel. We custom make these to fit the contour of your teeth and bond them to the tooth’s original enamel. The material we use to fabricate these veneers is called E-max. Emax is the most durable and strongest material on the market. One of the benefits of porcelain is that they don’t discolour with time. They maintain the white, bright colour for much longer than normal teeth or composite veneers. Porcelain material may last for decades with proper care.
We place composite restorations in a single appointment, and the procedure is minimally invasive. We generally use these veneers for people with small imperfections.
It’s important to note that composite material will stain with smoking, and drinking tea and coffee, tea. They also have a shorter lifespan than porcelain and will only last around 5 to 7 years. One of the advantages of composite is that composite veneers are that they are generally much cheaper than porcelain ones.
How veneers improve your smile
Shape and size
The appearance of each individual tooth adds to the overall look of your smile. When certain teeth are uneven in shape or size or have an odd shape, this can create a less than perfect smile. In these cases, we will fabricate your veneers to even out the shape and size of each individual tooth. The end result is a much more aesthetically pleasing smile.
We may also use veneers to repair minor damage that negatively impacts your smile. One of the most common issues that we can repair is minor chips in the teeth. In some cases, we use them to repair superficial cracks.
We can also improve the colour of your teeth with veneers, especially if you have stubborn stains that don’t go away from teeth whitening treatment. We can create these restorations in a lighter colour that will make your smile look whiter and brighter once they are put in place. When we place a single veneer, we may elect to use the same colour as your natural teeth, so the veneer blends in perfectly with the surrounding teeth.
Alignment and spacing
Veneers can also address problems with alignment and spacing. One of the most common spacing issues are gaps between the teeth. By creating your veneers slightly wider than your natural teeth, we can easily fill these gaps. They can also be used on overlapping, crooked, teeth in order to make them appear more evenly spaced and straighter. However, bear in mind that veneers only conceal the problem and cannot actually change the structure of your teeth.
The great thing about veneers is that they are able to solve so many different dental concerns at the same time. Whether you’ve got an unsightly gap or stained teeth, we can help fix these issues very quickly and easily. To learn out more about how we can give you a gorgeous new smile, contact us today.
